McPherson County issues snow and ice control plan

McPherson County Public Works Department will use the following criteria, as needed, for the day light hours Snow and Ice Control Plan:

1)    McPherson County Public Works crews will use a brine solution to pretreat all paved county maintained roads prior to forecasted snow or ice events.

2)    McPherson County Public Works will spread salt/sand at the following areas when the need arises:

a. intersections

b. hills

c. curves

d. Stubborn snow packed or ice patches as needed

McPherson County Public Works crews will not salt/sand the entire road system.

3)     McPherson County Public Works crews will plow snow during daylight hours when the snow accumulation is sufficient enough to warrant the snow removal.

4)     McPherson County Public Works crews will respond to call outs by McPherson County Dispatch after hours for:

a. Emergencies as requested by Sheriff’s Deputies, Fire or EMS.

b. Isolated bad spots as determined by Sheriff’s Deputies and/or Public   Works crews.

c. When snow accumulation is to a point Pubic Works crews determine it’s necessary to plow snow.


Any snow removal operations after hours, will consider the safety of the Public Works crews a priority.

McPherson County Public Works, Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Management discourage any unnecessary travel during snow and ice events.  

If you must be on the road prior to sun up or after sun down, please take any and all necessary safety precautions prior to your travels throughout McPherson County, and please use extreme caution.
