The votes are in.

McPherson High has the best boys basketball program in Kansas.

MHS was one of five Kansas schools selected for a contest sponsored by USA Today Sports. The Bullpups finished first in the state voting with 22,896 votes, with Scott City a distant second.

The top vote-getter for the state contest went to Ames, Iowa, which had 64,243 votes. McPherson is competing against Ames in the regional round.

McPherson now advances into one of the eight regional competitions. The top vote-getter from each region, along with two wild cards, advance to the national round.

Voting starts now and runs through Jan. 29. After the field is pared to 10, voting for the national contest runs from Jan. 30 to Feb. 6

If the Bullpups can make the Top 10 finals, they are assured of receiving a banner. The top three national winners receive cash prizes.
