HAYS — After placing third last week in the prestigious Newton Tournament of Champions, McPherson High’s ace 106-pounder Austin Eldredge two-upped himself Saturday at the Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic.

Eldredge, who is among the best 106-pounders in the state with only one loss, blasted through four matches to win the championship.

That helped the Bullpups to a Top 10 finish in the 23-team event. MHS, which had five placers among its 11 entrants, scored 70 points for 10th.

Hoisington (160) and Goodland (131) finished 1-2, with Salina Central (129 1/2), Kapaun (127 1/2) and Campus (114) completing the Top 5.

Ross Regier and Ty Goss, at 195 and 285, respectively, took fifth place, while Andrew Trowbridge and Kaleb Jost, at 113 and 182, respectively, were sixth.

MHS goes to Rose Hill on Thursday for an AVCTL Division III dual match. MHS is hoping to even its league record at 2-2 and is seeking its third dual win of the year.
