GREAT BEND — One of the most dominant eighth-grade girls basketball seasons ever came to an end on Tuesday as McPherson Middle School swept Great Bend. The two MMS programs combined for a 31-1 record, the only loss by three points by the A-team.
The A-team finished 15-1 as they crushed Great Bend, 50-14. Nine Bullpups scored, led by Jaycee Burghart with nine.
“The A-team played well and as they have done all season, they played great defense and understand that our defense would lead to us getting out on the break,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “We shot well in the halfcourt also. This group only gave up 14 points a game, which is outstanding.”
The B-team cruised to a 31-11 rout to finish a perfect 16-0. Megan Eisenbarth’s eight points led the way.
“The B-team once again got up early and really played as a team,” said Crawford, who was assisted by Emilie Blakesley. “This group really got better as the season went on. Their defense was a key all season which only gave up 13 points per game.”
