GREAT BEND — It was the perfect end to a perfect season.

McPherson’s eighth-grade boys dominated both Goodland and Colby on Saturday in the Great Bend Jamboree to finish the season with a perfect 16-0 record.

MMS opened with a 50-19 pummeling of Goodland behind 20 points by Jake Alexander. Elijah Muehler furnished 10.

In a 45-26 success against Colby, the Bullpups were led by Muehler’s 18 points, while Alexander chipped in with 14.

Here is MMS coach Tyler Brown’s postgame and thoughts on the season:

“Another fantastic season,” Brown said. “I was ecstatic that we were able to get a full 16-game schedule in and go undefeated. We don't always have the luxury of playing a full 16 games due to weather or schedule difficulties or whatever the reason, so it was nice to get to play the maximum amount of games allowed.  I enjoyed working with a very talented group of guys.  I'm really hoping this group of guys continues to play basketball together moving forward towards high school. I've seen very talented players in the past hang it up after their eighth-grade year or even their freshman year which just leaves coaches puzzled.  This group of guys, if they stick together, could perform at the highest level when they become juniors and seniors. I look forward to watching them play in the Roundhouse.

“When you have coaches like Denny Jaye, Treg Fawl and Eric Burghart working in the middle school program, you can start to build a fantastic program. Thank you coaches. Without these coaches laying a solid foundation it would make it very difficult to get all the ‘W’s’ that have come our way to the boys middle school basketball program.

“Also coach (Kurt) Kinnamon is a huge asset to the success as well. He has had an open-door policy from the first year I coached at the middle school.  Not only does coach Kinnamon talk basketball with us any day of the week, he opens his playbook, philosophy and future perspective of how he wants players delivered to him. Thanks coach Kinnamon.”
