It’s home-stretch time of the KCAC basketball season.
Just three weeks remain in the regular season and there’s still plenty of jockeying going on.
McPherson College will be cast in role of spoiler Thursday night when the Bulldog teams travel to Hillsboro to play Tabor College.
Game time is 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men. Coverage on 96.7 KBBE-FM starts at 5:45 p.m.
Both Bluejay teams are smack in the title hunt. The Tabor men are 9-3 in the KCAC and in a three-team logjam at the top with Saint Mary and Bethany. Friends is a game back at 8-4 and Southwestern is lurking at 7-5.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 4-8 in the KCAC, a game out of sixth place as they trail 5-7 Ottawa and Sterling by a game.
As far as making the eight-team playoffs, they’re fine as long as they stay ahead of Bethel and Kansas Wesleyan, both of which are 2-10. Mac defeated both of those teams last week.
The Bulldogs take an 8-16 overall record into Thursday’s game.
Meanwhile, Tabor’s women also are involved in a three-way tie at the top at 9-3, with Friends and Tabor the other two teams. Look out for Southwestern, which is 8-4, while Ottawa is 7-5.
The Bulldogs are in a fight with Saint Mary for the eighth and final playoff spot. Both teams are 3-9 and one of them will not make the playoffs. Bethany appears to be out of it at 1-11.
The Bulldogs, who have won two of their last three, are 4-20 overall.
The McPherson teams will be back home on Saturday to host Sterling, with game times 5 and 7 p.m. at the Sport Center.
