McPherson College has named current baseball coach Andrew Ehling as its new athletic director, succeeding Doug Quint.
Quint stepped down to concentrate on his expanded duties as soccer coach for both the men’s and women’s programs.
Ehling, who is currently the Assistant Athletic Director, will transition into the role through the academic year.
This will be the first time in the history of McPherson College that there will be a full-time athletic director.
“Andrew brings great experience as a coach and a passion for students. I’m looking forward to working with him as he leads our athletic programs,” McPherson College President Michael Schneider said.
“I’m very thankful and humbled by this opportunity President Schneider has given me,” Ehling said. “It’s exciting to think about working aside our faculty and staff to assure a positive student experience.”
Ehling was instrumental in the rebirth of the Bulldog baseball program. The Hutchinson native came to McPherson College in 2011 and, following a 4-35 opening season, posted a record of 20-30 in 2013. The Bulldogs qualified for the KCAC Postseason Tournament as they finished fifth in the conference and he was named KCAC Coach of the Year.
“When I hired Andrew back in 2011, I knew it was the right decision and that he would play an integral part in the athletic department,” Quint said. “I look forward to being part of his team and working under his leadership.”
Ehling owns a bachelor’s degree in social science from Kansas State University and a master’s degree in athletic and sport business administration from the University of Central Missouri.
