Crushing losses for Tiger teams

It may have been the most disappointing night of the year for the Central Christian College basketball teams Friday at Alexander Arena.

The Lady Tigers couldn’t throw it in the ocean in a 59-51 loss to Central Baptist College, a team they defeated just a week ago.

CCC shot only 16 of 52 from the floor, 13 of 26 from the line and threw it away 21 times, in addition to getting out-rebounded by 11.

The loss dropped Central to 2-6 in the MCAC and 8-16 overall with nationally ranked College of the Ozarks here Saturday afternoon for a 3 p.m. date.

Quamisha Spence was the bright spot for CCC with a double-double, 19 points and 11 rebounds. Libby Regier added 12 points.

Rachel Eitherington led CBC with 17. Abbi Sterns had a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds.

CCC (51) — Young 2, Woods 5, Regier 12, Void 7, Garza 1, Smit 4, Salazar 1, Spence 19.

Central Baptist (59) — Morris 6, Medina 6, Eitherington 17, Moran 6, Hauff 1, Davison 7, Milton 2, Sterns 12, Fimpel 2.

• CENTRAL BAPTIST MEN 73, CCC 69 — In a game the Tigers had to have, they didn’t get it.

Up six at the half, 34-28, CCC could not hang on in the second half and fell to 3-5 in the MCAC. The Tigers had defeated Central Baptist by 13 points last Friday in Arkansas.

A 23-of-62 shooting night doomed the Tigers, who played without leading scorer Michael Gholston, who has been suspended indefinitely. Alonzo Stafford led the way with 12 points, Shawn Robbins had his best game with 11, and Tere Adams and Jerome Jackson scored 10 apiece.

Jayln McBride led Central Baptist with 20.

The Tigers, 13-9 overall after being 9-2 at one point, have no bargain at 5 p.m. Saturday when nationally ranked College of the Ozarks comes to town.

CCC (69) — Stafford 12, Quincy 2, Nwosuh 3, Rojas 8, Adams 10, Jackson 10, Burton 6, Clayborn 7, Robbins 11.

Central Baptist (73) — Hamilton 9, McBride 20, Tarver 7, Brown 12, Daniels 6, Tardy 5, Benson 6, Reed 2, Brewster 4, Martin 2.
