WAXAHACHIE, Texas — Central Christian College’s baseball team recorded its first two victories of the season while on a four-game weekend road trip.

The Tigers and Southwestern Assemblies of God split their series as Central is now 2-4 on the year, three of the losses coming by a single run. Southwestern Assemblies is now 6-2.

A summary:

• Central 7, SAGU 3 — The Tigers did all their damage in the first four innings, scoring at least a run in each. Their biggest offensive output of the year was highlighted by two hits each by Zane Howard, Lee Stoops and Ian Eshelman. Alan Barker went six innings for the win.

• SAGU 3, Central 2 — In a well-pitched game by both sides, the Tigers scored in the top of the seventh to tie, then the Lions came right back for the winner in the bottom of the inning. CCC had only one hit, a single by Christian Herbig. The Lions managed only four. Spencer Balmer-Logan took the loss for the Tigers, as he walked five in his two innings of relief.

• SAGU 5, Central 4 — Another agonizing loss for the Tigers as they scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead, but the Lions tied it in the bottom of the inning, then won it in the eighth. Stoops had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers. Cameron Bonds, in relief of Douglas Gove, took the loss.

• Central 4, SAGU 0 — The Tigers’ best-pitched game of the year came from Keaton Snyder, who bedazzled the Lions on a two-shutout, walking only one and needing just 84 pitches.  Clayton Cramer was 3 for 4 and Michael Barnhart had two hits.

Central will play a single game Friday at Friends in Wichita, then take on the Falcons in a pair of games on Saturday.
