MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Bethany College’s baseball team salvaged the final game of a three-game series with Bacone College Sunday to open its season 1-2.
JC Bird threw a complete-game, four-hitter in a 9-2 Swedes victory after they had been swept on Saturday.
The Swedes scored two runs in the first and three in the third to kick-start their offense.
Bird struck out nine. Josiry Cirino collected three hits, three RBIs and two runs, while Nicholas Ceccarelli and Erik Pedersen added two RBIs each.
"It felt good to get in the 'W' column today," Bethany coach Andrew Bartman said. "JC Bird was great going the distance and Josiry Cirino had the big home run. I'm glad we could salvage something after playing well for 12 innings yesterday with nothing to show for it.”
Bethany will be back in action Wednesday and Thursday, Feb.11-12, as it travels to Huston-Tillotson University for a pair of 1 p.m. doubleheaders.
