Powerball Jackpot Rolls to Half a Billion Dollars!

Kansas Lottery players are lining up to have a chance to win a half a billion Powerball jackpot tonight! Based on very strong sales, the jackpot was increased this morning to $500 million. It was the second time since last Saturday’s drawing the jackpot was increased. If hit tonight, the $500 million jackpot would be the third largest in the history of the game.

A single Powerball jackpot winner Wednesday would claim 30 annuity payments or a one-time cash payout of $337.7 million. After taxes ($84.45 million federal and $16.89 million state), a jackpot winner in Kansas who took the cash option would receive a payment in the amount of $236.46 million.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever was $590.5 million, won in May 2013. The record U.S. lottery prize of $656 million was a Mega Millions jackpot awarded in March 2012. That prize was split among winners in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland.

Other exciting lottery news this week is the Super Kansas Cash jackpot of $1,755,857 that was hit in Monday night’s drawing. The single ticket that matched all numbers was sold in northeast Kansas. Winning numbers in the February 9 drawing were: 4-9-10-23-27 Super Cashball 20. The Kansas Lottery is waiting with great anticipation for the big winner to claim his or her prize.

The Super Kansas Cash jackpot returns to $100,000 for tonight. Hot Lotto, also drawn tonight, has a $4.52 million jackpot.
