Bottom Line: No one should ignore the direction of any school crossing guard who is under authority to direct traffic. This is a major safety issue for the crossing guard and the students for whom they are stopping traffic. PLEASE BE ATTENTIVE at every crosswalk. LOOK for the crossing guard and obey any directions given. Each student escorted through a crosswalk is somebody’s son, daughter, niece, grandson, or neighbor –and so is the crossing guard! In McPherson, this is a moving violation punishable by a $30 fine and $55 court cost.
