McPherson High’s Senior Night wrestling ceremonies will barely hold up the proceedings Thursday when the Bullpups host El Dorado at 6 p.m. in the MHS Auxiliary Gym.
The youthful Bullpups have just two grizzled veterans to honor — Ross Regier and Michael McKinney.
Then it will be business as usual as the Bullpups try to pull off the upset and move to 3-2 in AVCTL Division III.
“El Dorado will be a tough,” MHS coach Doug Kretzer said. “We saw them as a team at Rose Hill and they finished higher than us. I think they may have some opens, but we will have our hands full. We're up to the challenge and looking forward to a good scrap. Our team is getting healthier this week.”
El Dorado was eighth at Rose Hill and MHS was 14th. However, the Bullpups will fill some of the open weights they had last weekend. As usual, MHS figures to get off to a fast start and will finish strong, but it’s been soft in the middle.
MHS’ Austin Eldredge will attempt to reach a milestone. The 106-pound sophomore is 29-1 and can reach the 30-win barrier. He was No. 2 in his class in the recent 4A rankings.
This is the Bullpups’ final match before next weekend’s regional meet at Hays.
