It will be an exhausting weekend for Central Christian College’s basketball teams as they make their final road trip of the regular season.
On Friday, the Tigers make the 4-hour trip to Bartlesville to take on Oklahoma Wesleyan.
After returning home after midnight, it’s rise-and-shine time as the Tigers load up for Lawrence, another near 3-hour trip for a pair of afternoon games.
Both CCC teams, however, should be energized by their play from Tuesday as they swept York, which was ahead of them in the MCAC standings.
This could be a huge week for the Central men as they could make up some ground in the standings. The Tigers, 4-6 in the MCAC, are playing teams they defeated at home in meetings last month. Central routed Wesleyan by 20 (73-53) and then outlasted Haskell by nine (83-74).
One success this weekend would assure the Tigers of a winning regular season as they are 14-10 overall. They have averaged just under 20 wins a year under coach Tony Romero, who earlier this season signed a three-year contract extension.
While the Oklahoma Wesleyan and Haskell men are second-division teams, such is not the case with their women’s teams. Wesleyan is the MCAC women’s leader, while Haskell is a top contender.
The Lady Tigers, 3-7 in the MCAC and 9-17 overall, lost rather decisively to both teams at Alexander Arena, 86-60 to Wesleyan and 76-58 to Haskell.
After this weekend, the Central teams are home next week for two games to wrap up the regular season.
