NEWTON — Tough lane conditions led to the lowest scores of the year, but the McPherson High bowling teams still prevailed in a triangular with Buhler and Salina Central, hosted by Newton.

The MHS girls totaled a 2,059 to outlast Buhler (1,592) and Salina Central (1,462).

Makenzie Benson stepped up to lead the Bullpups with a 557 and she had a 215 game. A highlight was a 235 game thrown by Ashley LaSalle.

The MHS boys rode standout Carl Frazier to the win, as they totaled 2,171. Salina Central (1,910) and Buhler (1,889) gave chase.

Frazier had a 609, which included a 221 game — the only 200 MHS’ boys had.

“It was a tough condition, which turned it into a spare-shooting contest. We made our spares,” MHS coach Herb Halinski said. “We survived, but still have to work on spares and mental game.”

The varsity league meet is next Friday at Wichita.
