LINDSBORG — Bethany College freshman Alyssa Montoya put up some pinball-like numbers in her first career action with the Swedes last week, so good that she was named the KCAC Player of the Week.

In four games, Montoya went 8 for 14 (.571), with two doubles, three home runs, seven runs and nine RBI. Bethany won three of the four games.

"Our coaching staff is very proud of the team's performance this weekend,” Bethany coach Janice Esses said. "We had a lot of strong performances, but "Roe" (Montoya) was a consistent contributor at the plate. She is a very focused player with the ability to hit for power and average. Her consistency and the team's consistency will be a key factor as we progress through the season."

She is the daughter of Willy and Lisa Montoya of Bay City, Texas She has two siblings: Ashley, a junior softball player for the Swedes, and Alyson.

Montoya is majoring in elementary education K-6th grade.
