There will be no place like home for McPherson College’s basketball teams this week.
The Bulldog cagers will be home both Thursday and Saturday as they wrap up the regular season.
Friends will be the opponent on Thursday, with Saint Mary the final game of the regular season.
The Mac women, 3-13 in the KCAC and 4-24 overall, must win both of their games this week to even warrant consideration for the postseason tournament. The Bulldogs trail seventh-place Saint Mary by two games and the Spires play last-place Bethany on Thursday at Lindsborg.
The Friends women have totally unraveled. The one-time KCAC leader, the Falcons have lost five of six and now have to win the postseason tournament to make the national tournament. They are 10-6 in conference play.
When the Falcons were still going good, they punished the Bulldogs 96-61 at the Garvey Center last month.
The Mac men appear to be locked into the No. 8 playoff spot and a probable first-round game against Tabor at Hillsboro. The Bulldogs are 5-11 in the KCAC and 9-19 overall. In their first meeting with Friends, Mac appeared to have the game in hand as it was up six with under 2 minutes to go before the bottom fell out in a 68-66 loss.
Friends, which went through the first half of the KCAC schedule with a surprising 7-2 record, has cooled off in the second half as it’s just 2-5 to stand at 9-7. If the season ended right now, the Falcons would still be hosting a first-round playoff game, but they are just a game up on Southwestern, Sterling and Ottawa.
