LINDSBORG — Bethany College’s Nicholas Ceccarelli slugged his way to the KCAC Baseball Player of the Week honor on Tuesday.
His bat propelled the Swedes to a 5-1 week.
Ceccarelli, a senior shortstop from Upland, Calif., led the Swedes to a four-game sweep of Huston-Tillotson University on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as a split with Concordia University on Saturday.
He started the series against Huston-Tillotson by going 6 for 6 with three runs, three RBIs and five stolen bases in the first of two doubleheaders.
He scored two more runs and stole two more bases on the second day of the four-game series. Ceccarelli had a walk with a double and a single against Concordia.
"It's great when an individual gets a Player of the Week honor, but it's even better when he is also your school’s Champion of Character," Bethany coach Andrew Bartman said. "Nick's work ethic and character directly translates to this honor. We are proud to have him in our program."
Ceccarelli was 8-for-17 for the week while earning four walks. He scored five runs and had three RBIs. Ceccarelli was also perfect in stolen bases this week, 7-for-7. For the season Ceccarelli is hitting .478
