Matt Morrow may have done more with less than any boys swimming coach in the state.

Sixty percent of Morrow’s 10-man roster has qualified for the Class 5-1A state meet, which gets under way on Friday in Topeka. Prelims are set for 1:30 p.m., with finals scheduled for 2:45 p.m. Saturday. The Top 16 in each event advance, the first eight competing in the finals and the second eight battling in the consolation bracket.

“I think we have a good chance at getting a couple of swimmers in the Top 16,” said Morrow, who has done a solid job in his first year as coach. “We're really hoping to get one in the Top 8 Finals.”

Eric Gaeddert is the Bullpups’ leading candidate to make an individual final. Hs goes in No. 6 in the state in the 200 freestyle. He actually has qualified in an amazing nine events — counting relays — but can only compete in two individual events and two relays.

Here are the state qualifiers:

• Spencer Steinert (JR) — 500 free, 100 back, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Free Relay

• Max Howe (SO) —  100 back, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay

• Eric Gaeddert (SO) —  200 Free, 100 Breast, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay. He also qualified in the 50 Free, 100 Free, 500 Free and 200 IM as well but can only swim two individual events.
