McPherson County Public Works and the Kansas Dept. of Transportation (KDOT) are planning two projects on US Hwy 56 that will impact McPherson residents and travelers.

The projects include the installation of a traffic signal at the northbound exit/on ramps and widening of US 56 from I-135 to a point east of 17th Ave.

Construction is scheduled to begin no later than March 15 and last for 80 working days (approx. mid-June weather-permitting). The north bound exit ramp will be closed for the duration of the construction. The northbound on ramp will be closed for a portion of the construction. The south bound exit and on ramps will remain open. On a related note, Love's Travel Center, located on Hwy 56 just east of I-135, is scheduled to open on April 15. An official detour route during construction has not been announced by KDOT.
