Eldredge, 3 Vikes make regional finals

HAYS — McPherson High’s Austin Eldredge had little trouble during the first day of the Class 4A regional wrestling tournament.

Eldredge, who has lost only once this year, was 2-0 on Friday as he won by a fall and major decision. He is wrestling for the championship today.

The Bullpups’ Kaleb Jost made the semifinals at 182 before losing to Hays’ powerhouse Ethan Deterding, who is 35-2.

• COOK, LUSTFIELD, ARCHULETA MAKE FINALS — Smoky Valley’s undefeated Austin Cook, Austin Lustfield and Brandon Archuleta will all wrestle for regional championships today.

Cook, 38-0, goes up against Hays’ Deterding in maybe the day’s most anticipated match. Cook won all three of his Friday matches by falls, as did Archuleta.
