TOPEKA — McPherson High’s Eric Gaeddert established himself as a swimmer to watch for the future.

The Bullpup sophomore placed in two events Saturday on the final day of the Class 5-1A State Swimming and Diving Championships.

Gaeddert entered the finals of the 200 freestyle in seventh and that’s where he finished with a 1:53.84, just a tick slower than his qualifying time on Friday.

Gaeddert was just a tick faster, though, in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.22, which actually moved him up one spot to No. 12 in the final standings.

Gaeddert and his five teammates who qualified for state all return next year. The others were Spencer Steinert, Max Howe, Gavin Soukup, Jori VanGoethem and Carson Stone.
