HUTCHINSON — It was a battle of unbeatens Monday night when McPherson High took on Goddard Eisenhower for the championship of the Hutchinson Freshman Invitational.
However the close game never materialized, as the Bullpups dominated from the start and kept their record spotless with a convincing 55-38 victory. Eisenhower had averaged 71.5 points in its first two tourney games.
MHS now has won the Hutch Invite title three years in a row.
Drew Labertew led three players in double figures with 15 points. Thomas Diggs and Sam Brossard furnished 10 apiece.
“Our guys were ready for the challenge,” MHS coach Dustan Kanitz said. “Eisenhower came in undefeated and averaging over 70 points a game. When we can hold a team like that to 38 points, it makes for a very satisfying win. I am proud of the way so many guys have stepped up this year and carried on a new role. It's a special group of kids and a great team.”
MHS (55) — Labertew 15, Armstrong 6, J. Alexander 8, Diggs 10, Seidl 6, Brossard 10.
