McPherson College’s baseball team bounced back from a 10-4 first-game loss to Nebraska Wesleyan here Tuesday to salvage a split of the doubleheader with a 5-4 second-game verdict.
The Bulldogs never trailed in the second game to improve to 3-9 on the year. Mac pushed ahead for good with a run in the fourth and added another in the fifth.
Kyle McDonald had two hits to spark Mac and Reily Martin scored three runs from his leadoff spot. Jesse Correll battled, as he scattered nine hits and threw 126 pitches before being rewarded with the victory.
In the opener, John Estudillo started the game for Wesleyan by homering and it was the impetus for the victory. Wesleyan scored in each of the first six innings, while Mac pecked out a singleton in four of its seven innings, never once able to put up more than one run in a frame.
The Bulldogs had only one hit, a single by John Lauts.
If the weather cooperates, Mac will host Midland University for four games this weekend, two on Saturday and two more on Sunday.
