City college softball bragging rights were on the line Tuesday when crosstown rivals McPherson College and Central Christian College hooked up at Wall Park.

And the bragging as of now belongs to the Bulldogs.

After an 0-7 start to their season against mainly nationally ranked competition, the Bulldogs swept the Lady Tigers 11-3 and 10-7.

“Everybody stepped up today in some capacity," said Mac coach Ashley Spencer, who notched the first two Bulldog victories in her tenure. "We have been talking about executing with runners on and how important that is. Today showed us that we have the ability to do it."

The Bulldogs jumped all over CCC in the first game, blasting away for five runs in the first and three in the second.

Mac’s Whitney Miller was 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Simone Donaldson was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Emily Davis added two hits and Cassandra Moreno drove in two runs. Amanda Connell allowed only one earned run to notch the win.

Ashly Westgarth and Kasi Kraus collected two hits apiece for the Lady Tigers. Kraus took the loss.

The second game was much more competitive. CCC led 7-4 before the Bulldogs erupted for five runs in the fifth.

Amanda Darrow was 3 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs for the Bulldogs. Samantha Harrity, Savannah Lewis, McKenna Deckard and Mariah Wedel picked up two hits each as Mac had 15 for the game. Moreno drove in three runs.

Sydney Nelson homered and singled for the Lady Tigers, who also received two hits from Cheyenne Reynolds, Brooklynn Lemons and Dana Dean.  Connell was the winner and Kristen Hall took the loss.

“Tonight we had two tough losses,” CCC coach Tina Haga said. “We just haven't found our groove yet, but I'm very confident we will. Tonight we just didn't make our necessary adjustments at the plate. Mac hit the ball well and we just didn't answer."

Mac goes to Baker on Saturday. Central, now 0-4, is home today to play KCAC powerhouse Kansas Wesleyan.
