SALINA — McPherson High’s Austin Eldredge is one victory away from wrestling for a state championship.

Eldredge this afternoon won his second-round match in the Class 4A State Tournament at the Bicentennial Center.

Eldredge, at 106, hammered out a 13-1 victory over Ottawa’s Jared Parenti. He will face Cody Phippen of Basehor-Linwood in the semifinals tonight.

Eldredge is now 37-1 on the season.

Oddly, Phippen is the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the class by the KWCA, while Eldredge is No. 2, yet the way the bracket fell they were on the same side. Undefeted Dylan Pelland of Pratt and Levi Green of Baldwin meet in the other semi.
