SALINA — McPherson High’s Austin Eldredge still has a chance to take third place in the Class 4A State Wrestling Tournament.

Eldredge, after winning his first two matches today, lost his 106-pound semifinal match to Cody Phippen of Basehor-Linwood, 4-0. It was only the second loss to the year for Eldredge in what was a matchup of the top two-ranked wrestlers. Phippen is No. 1 by the KWCA and Eldredge is No. 2, but they were on the same side of the bracket.

Pratt’s Dylan Pellend, who is undefeated but ranked only No. 4 by the KWCA, will be Phippen’s opponent in Saturday’s finals.

Eldredge will be competing in consolation action.

MHS’ Kaleb Jost, at 182, lost his second match to Alex Bejarano of Basehor-Linwood 12-6, and his tournament is over with an 0-2 record.
