SALINA — The rematch is on.

Smoky Valley’s Austin Cook and Hays’ Ethan Deterding will meet Saturday in a rematch of their Class 4A regional wrestling championship bout from last week.

Instead this time it’s for the state title.

Cook won all three of his matches by pins on Friday to make the 182-pound finals, where he’ll meet Deterding. Cook pinned him last week and with his three wins Friday, he’s now 42-0.

Cook has been ranked No. 1 all year, Deterding No. 2.

Brandon Archuleta, at 145, made it to the semifinals for the Vikings before losing 4-3 to Chanute’s Adam Cole. He can still finish as high as third.

Smoky’s Austin Lustfield, at 120, and Jarod DeMott, at 220, are still competing as both were 1-1 on Friday. Lustfield lost his first match and then won his first consolation match, while DeMott was a first-round winner before losing 7-5 in the second round to Santa Fe Trail’s Ethan Dean.
