WICHITA — McPherson High’s boys finished back in the pack Thursday in the Class 5-1A State Bowling Tournament at Northrock Lanes.
The Bullpups shot a creditable 2,493, but huge numbers were thrown as they wound up taking seventh.
Circle had a 2,708 for first, 101 pins better than Wichita Heights’ 2,607. Great Bend was third with 2,550.
Circle was led by state champion Jerod Hromek, who nearly bowled a perfect game in his first set with a 298. He had a 207 and 247 for a final 752, well ahead of Topeka West’s Adam Wood, who finished with 718.
The Bullpups’ top bowler was a surprise, as Talin Goebel led with a 618, as he had games of 156-195-267 for a tie for 22nd.
Carl Frazier, the top bowler all year, was 27th with games of 213-198-202 for a 613. He was one place ahead of teammate Jeff Reed, who had 169-201-242 for a 612.
Other MHS scores were Clayton Ouellette (42nd, 191-174-225—590), Kolton Lare (54th, 151-232-187—570) and KC Becker (72nd, 148-182-204—534).
