TOPEKA —Bethany College’s Victor Hughes earned All-American status this past weekend at the NAIA National Wrestling Championships.
He competed at 149 pounds. He lost his first match, then won three straight, before losing his final two.
"It was another vintage, gritty performance for Vic,” Bethany coach Cody Garcia said. “He scrapped with one of the best kids in the tournament and brought that same battle mentality to his placement match. All-American Saturday is one of those days where every guy that steps to the line has proven himself and is ready for a barn-burner. Those barnburners are exactly what Victor has thrived in and just seemed to run out of time in the matches today.”
Hughes is only the second Bethany College All-American. Colby Crank was an All-American the three previous seasons for the Swedes.
