McPherson High’s boys tennis team has started the year ranked No. 3 in Class 4A by the Kansas Tennis Coaches Association.

Independence is No. 1, followed by defending champion  Topeka Hayden at No. 2.

The Bullpups were second in the state last year, but MHS coach Tyler Brown must replace the state champion doubles team of Ryan Horton and Peter Horton, as well as Dylan Stos.

Buhler and Wichita Trinity round out the top five. DeSoto, Parsons and Winfield also received votes.

Hesston, which has some key returnees, starts the year ranked No. 3 in Class 3-2-1A. Kansas City Christian and Wichita Collegiate are ahead of the Swathers, with Central Plains and Conway Springs the Nos. 4 and 5 teams.
