The McPherson USD 418 School Board voted 6-0 Monday evening to hire Mr. Mark Crawford, current Superintendent in Hugoton as the next Superintendent in McPherson USD 418. He will replace Dr. Randy Watson, who is moving on to become Kansas Commissioner of Education July 1st.

According to a statement read at the meeting by board chair Brad Berg, "The Hugoton school district has also been very progressive in the areas of student preparation and innovation. Mark has been a great leader and visionary in his district and we look forward to starting our professional relationship with him."

Mr. Crawford graduated from Southwestern College with a degree in biology and HPER. He earned his masters from Wichita State University in administration and supervision in 1999.

Mr. Crawford was a teacher in Mulvane, a K-8 principal at North Lyon County and a K-6 principal in Shawnee Heights prior to going to Hugoton. He has been the Superintendent in Hugoton since 2007.

Mr. Crawford said in the statement read by Berg, "I look forward to the transition to McPherson School District in July. Dr. Randy Watson has successfully led USD 418 for the past 10 years, and my goal is to continue to maintain high expectations for student success, and support a relevant C3 experience for all students."

Berg added, "Over the next several months the Board will be working on the integration into the district and to fully introduce him to our programs. During this time he will be participating in some of the district activities prior to his official start on July 1st."
