It’s been quite a 48-hour period for the Central Christian College women’s softball team.

The Lady Tigers, after entering Tuesday with an 0-8 record, exited Wednesday at 4-8 after their second sweep in as many days.

This one was special because it came against McPherson College, avenging two earlier losses. It also was the first time in eight years the Lady Tigers have toppled the Bulldogs.

“The girls played with such heart and focus,” Central coach Tina Haga said. “They showed up ready to play today and it showed. Barring leaving several runners stranded, they still found a way to win that first game. They continued with the same intensity in the second game, believed in each other and were able to hold onto the lead to win the second.  I just couldn't be more proud of each and every one of them."

Central pounded out 16 hits in winning the first game, 7-3. Sydney Nelson, Ashly Westgarth and Desiree Yandell all rapped out three hits to pace the Lady Tigers and pitcher Kristen Hall helped her own cause with two hits. Cheyenne Reynolds and Kasi Kraus also had two hits.

McKenna Deckard hit a solo homer, while Savannah Lewis drove in two runs for Mac. Mariah Wedel and Simone Donaldson contributed two hits apiece.

Kaylee Lozier took the loss.

It took forever to play the first inning of Game 2 as Central scored seven first-inning runs and Mac came back with five. The end of the game was just as wild as the Lady Tigers scored two runs in the seventh inning, then fended off a three-run Bulldog rally to escape with a 12-11 victory.

The Lady Tigers continued to pound the ball with 15 hits, including three more by Westgarth and three by Brooklynn Lemons. Reynolds, Nelson, Yandell and Dana Dean all had two.

Lewis and Whitney Miller garnered two hits for Mac. Cristina Insua was the winner in relief for Central and Mallory Fowler took the loss.

Central hosts Mid-America Christian on Saturday. The Bulldogs, now 3-13, host their annual tournament on Friday and Saturday, playing five games in the process.
