HUTCHINSON — The Hesston High girls’ Class 3A State Basketball Tournament opener Wednesday at the Sports Arena went much like their regular-season games.

A rout.

Galena put up little resistance against the undefeated defending state champions as Hesston roared into Friday’s semifinals with a 51-25 rout.

Hesston led 16-6 after a quarter and doubled up the Bulldogs by the half, 26-13.

Caylee Richardson and Kelsey Unruh scored 11 points apiece for Hesston, which plays Sabetha at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Bluejays outlasted Beloit 55-52 in the first round.

Richardson added 15 rebounds and nine assists — just missing a triple-double — as she dominated the play on the court.

Hesston is now 24-0 on the year while Sabetha will take a 21-3 record into Friday’s game.

The Swather boys are in action tonight, taking on Wichita Collegiate in a rematch of last year’s first-round game.
