Bret McClendon, principal at McPherson High School, submitted his resignation to the McPherson USD 418 School Board at Monday's school board meeting, effective at the end of June. He will be taking a high school principal's position in Elizabeth, Colorado.

For McClendon, an avid outdoorsman, this is about activities outside the school day. McClendon said, "It really gives me an opportunity to still pursue my professional dreams, but do it in a way that I can get some things to do outside of the classroom that I just can't do here, unfortunately."

Elizabeth, Colorado High School is just slightly larger than McPherson, according to McClendon, with just over 700 students.

McClendon said his favorite profesional memory from his Bullpup tenure was last year. McClendon said, "My favorite memory, on a professional side, was when we were awarded the Governor's Achievement Award last February, as one of the top five percent of schools in the State of Kansas. There's just not a lot that can top that."
