ST. LOUIS — Tim Prescott never won a state championship while at McPherson High, even though he made the semifinals four straight years.

But today he has a chance to win a collegiate national championship.

Prescott won his first two matches on Friday for St. Cloud State University in the NCAA Division II Championships at 125 pounds.

If he can win his first match today, he’ll wrestle for the championship. Behind Prescott, the Huskies are in first place as a team with 47 points, just ahead of Nebraska-Kearney, which has 44 1/2.

Prescott won his first match over Travis Laxton of Coker by a technical fall, then outlasted Willie Bohince of Mercyhurst, 5-2.
