LUBBOCK, Texas — Bethany College’s Ben Johnson has gotten off to an early start in his bid to again earn All-American golfing honors.
Johnson, a senior from England, won medalist honors Tuesday in the Chaps Invitational. He was second in the tourney after the first day, but finished with a 4-over-par 220 for the title. His second-round of 69 was the one that gave him the cushion he needed as he finished with a final-day 79 as conditions were tough.
Bethany was third as a team.
Josh Meeks finished in 17th place with a 239, while Jose Acevedo was 21st with 243, one place ahead of teammate Lex Deal (244). Olly Rubenstein shot a 245.
Wayland Baptist won the tournament with a 903. Cameron University took second place with a score of 921 and the Swedes finished in third place with 942.
The Swedes will compete March 23-24 in Junction City.
