Baseball Swedes sweep Bulldogs

LINDSBORG — Bethany College’s baseball team wound up taking three of four games in its weekend series with county rival McPherson College by sweeping Saturday’s twinbill.

Bethany had its way in both games, 7-1 and 11-2. The Swedes are now 7-5 in the KCAC and 16-16 overall, while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-10 and 6-25.

Bethany blew open the first game with a four-run fourth inning to swell its lead to 7-0. Mac averted the shutout with a run in the fifth. Axel Sosa was nails on the mound to earn the win and Nathan Crowe took the loss.

Erik Pedersen collected two hits and scored two runs for the Swedes. Reily Martin drove in Shon Pinard with the only Mac run.

Bethany cruised in the second game after scoring four runs in the third and five in the fourth.

Pedersen and Raymond Vazquez were both 3 for 3 with two RBIs to lead the Swedes and Nicholas Ceccarelli was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. 

John Feaster had two hits for Mac.

Andrew Gomez went the distance for the win, while Trevor Haycock took the loss.

Mac’s next action is Tuesday at Fort Hays State, while Bethany hosts Saint Mary on Thursday.
