Bethel tabs Lolar as head football coach

NORTH NEWTON — Former Friends University football standout Morris Lolar has been hired as the new head football coach at Bethel College.

He replaces Marty Mathis, who recently resigned after two years and a 5-17 record.

Lolar most recently was at Independence Community College where he served as defensive coordinator.  

Before that he was head coach of the Wichita Wild, a member of the Indoor Football League where he won the IFL Championship. Lolar also has had defensive coaching stops at Friends University, Texas A&M – Commerce, Wichita East High School as well as Wichita North High School. 

Lolar was a two-time first-team All-American defensive back for Friends University and All-City player at Wichita South High School. He had a tryout with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993 before playing six years in Canada.

Lolar graduated from Friends University with a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management in 2008 and a Masters in 2010. He is an inductee in the Friends University and Wichita Sports Hall of Fames.
