LINDSBORG — Smoky Valley’s baseball season began with a pair of setbacks against Ell-Saline on Tuesday
The Cardinals scored six runs in the second inning to spark an 11-2 first-game victory.
Brett Heitschmidt had two hits, one a double, for the Vikings, while Tim Ruble added two singles. Ryan Weldy took the loss.
In the second game, a four-run third inning by the Vikings tied the game at 5-all, but it was all Ell-Saline after that as the Cardinals completed the sweep with a 12-6 triumph.
Heitschmidt completed his fine day with two singles and two RBIs. Zach Able had a triple and single, while Jordin Foth chipped in with a pair of singles.
Dylan Goodell took the loss.
