DOUGLASS — It was a good start to the season for the Moundridge baseball team, sweeping a pair of high-scoring games Tuesday with Douglass.
The Wildcats won a dramatic first game 9-6, scoring three runs in the top of the ninth. The Bulldogs had scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extras.
The Wildcats actually had only six hits in the game, two apiece by Anthony Otte and Bryant Olson. Noah Eichelberger’s double was the lone extra-base knock.
Caleb Frye was the winner. Kyle Stucky pitched seven solid innings as the starter, giving up only one earned run.
It was a crazy second game as Moundridge led 15-3 going into the seventh when Douglass erupted for 11 runs. But the Wildcats finally got the final out to hang on.
MHS had 10 hits in the game, two by Stucky and Olson. Otte, Caleb Frye and Dylan Sugars all drove in two runs. Stucky and Trenton Olson scored three apiece.
Sugars was the winner. Nick Leddy garnered a save.
