Salina Central nips Hesston for net crown

HESSTON — Class 5A tennis power Salina Central outlasted Class 3A power Hesston for the team title on Tuesday in the Hesston Invitational.

The Mustangs, who won both singles divisions as well as No. 2 doubles, scored 42 points to shade the Swathers, who totaled 40.

The rest of the teams were well back, with Goddard (24) taking third. Other totals were Smoky Valley (20), Trinity Catholic (20), Wichita Independent (20), Parsons (5) and Trinity Academy (1).

Isaac Penner was 3-0 to take first at No. 2 singles for the Swathers, while Collin Martin was 2-1 at No. 1 for third. For Smoky Valley, Drew Bochte was fifth at No. 1 singles and Jonathan Dahlsten was sixth at No. 2.

In No. 2 doubles, Grant Dahlsten and Garrett Roth of Hesston took second place, while Smoky Valley’s Trapper Bellah and Nick Reinert were fourth. In No. 2 doubles, Hesston’s Kendrick Weaver and David Geidel were second, with Smoky Valley’s Trey Schneider and Nils Peterson finishing third.
