WINFIELD — It was a disappointing split Wednesday for Bethany College’s softball team, as it was defeated 8-7 in the first game by Southwestern before winning the second game, 5-2.

Southwestern had entered the day winless in KCAC play and just three wins overall. Bethany is now 4-2 in conference play, 16-15 overall.

Bethany led the first game 7-6, but Southwestern scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth for the walk-off win.

Jenna Carson led the way for the Swedes with three hits, while Jasmine Zaker, Kristen Crawford, Jordan Blakesley and Ashley Montoya all had two as the Swedes wasted a 15-hit effort. Blakesley’s homer was the big blow. Jessica Armijo took the loss.

Bethany scored three runs in the top of the seventh to win the second game. Camille McIver was the winner and the Swedes took advantage of errors in the seventh for their winning runs.

Carson and Montoya had two hits apiece for the Swedes. Blakesley drove in two runs.

The Swedes return to action Thursday at Friends.
