It’s another busy day today for McPherson High’s sports teams.
All of them, however, will be on the road.
The MHS golf team goes to El Dorado, as it’s the last Bullpup team to get its season under way. Down through the years, the team has opened there and the weather has ranged from near-snowy conditions to oppressive heat, which might be the case today, along with gusty winds.
Seven teams are expected to be in the field.
The Bullpups will then be hosting their own invitational on Thursday at Turkey Creek.
MHS coach Kurt Kinnamon has announced that his opening-meet lineup will include Jacob Lackey, Casey Cheek, CJ Steiner, Kaden Warren, Tommy Smith and Michael Smith. Lackey and Cheek have been especially impressive in the preseason.
The MHS track and field team will be competing in its second meet of the season as it goes to Newton. Up to 10 teams have indicated they will be taking part, with the meet being contested at Bethel College.
The MHS baseball and softball teams go on the road to Towanda for 4 p.m. doubleheaders with Circle. The Bullpup baseball team, after losing its first two games, has reeled off four wins in a row behind outstanding pitching and airtight defense. MHS swept Rose Hill on Thursday, a team that has most of its starters back from a third-place Class 4A state finisher.
The MHS softball team is trying to get on a roll. After going 1-3 in its first two doubleheaders, the Bullpups took a pair of games last Thursday from Rose Hill to even their record at 3-3.
MHS’ other sports return to action on Tuesday. The soccer team plays at Wichita Collegiate, the swimming team goes to Winfield and the JV tennis team plays at Derby.
