A 48 year old Hesston man died Wednesday afternoon following a traffic accident.

A 2000 semi tanker truck driven by John Douglas Schrock carrying a flammable liquid either oil or diesel fuel, was southbound on K153 in the southwest corner of McPherson around 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle was traveling too fast to negotiate a curve in the roadway causing it to strike the median. The vehicle then rolled across the North bound lanes into the East ditch and caught fire.

McPherson Fire crews allowed the flames to burn down for a period before attacking the fire for the safety of the firefighters. The fire was put out just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The accident closed K153 overnight.
