The Smoky Valley Historical Association is pleased to announce that the funding has been obtained for renovations to the castle and restroom building at Coronado Heights.
Plans are to replace the observation deck in the castle, reuse or replace the castle support timbers, make each building accessible for vistors with mobility difficulties and make other needed repairs to each building.
The final architectural plans are being reviewed and a contractor will be selected soon. After that process is completed, a construction start date will be announced.
Coronado Heights will remain open through most of the building renovation phase of the project.
The next phase of the project is restoration of the original WPA drainage system to curb erosion and the installation of a more permanent asphalt paved road. The fundraising goal for phase two is $65,000.
