Bethany College has kicked off a campaign to name the stage at Presser Hall in honor of Elmer Copley, the longtime director of the Bethany Oratorio Society. The announcement was made live on KBBE before this year's Easter Sunday performance of Handel's Messiah.

The Bethany Oratorio Society was the first to make a gift to the campaign. The campaign is looking to raise $100,000. Gifts will be used to maintain and enhance the historic performance space. The first project will be to refinish the stage floor.

Copley was the Oratorio Society director from 1960 to 1988. While at Bethany, he conducted the choir and founded the music department's annual Jultide concert. He also arranged periodic European tours for the choir, as well as the choir's debut at New York City's Lincoln Center in 1973.
