LEMONI, Iowa — Bethany College’s softball team engaged with Graceland University for a pair of non-KCAC games on Sunday and the long trip was worth it.
The Swedes came away with 6-4 and 4-3 wins in a pair of competitive games, the first one going nine innings. The sweep pushed the Swedes back over .500 for the year at 21-19.
The first game was a roller-coaster ride. Bethany wound up scoring three times in the ninth and then held off Graceland in the bottom of the inning as its rally produced just one run.
Jordan Blakesley had three hits to lead the Swedes, while Jasmine Zaker, Ashley Montoya and Mariana Cerenio-Jordan had two each.
Camille McIver toiled all nine innings to notch the victory.
Bethany held off a Graceland rally in the second game. The Swedes led 4-2 when Graceland scored a run in the sixth, but there was no further damage.
The Swedes probably should have scored more as they rattled 12 hits around the park. Emily Causey had three, while Jenna Carson, Alyssa Montoya and McIver all had two. Jasmine Stewart was the winner and Kierstin Stolley earned the save.
Bethany returns to KCAC action on Wednesday hosting Ottawa. The Swedes are 6-6 in the KCAC.
