Starlite Lanes of McPherson has been selected to host the 2015 State Family Bowling Tournament, scheduled for May 2-3, 9-10 and 16-17.
The announcement was made today by Starlite Lanes owner Cliff Hutts, who was notified by State Secretary Mary Thurber of Kansas City.
According to Thurber, last year’s tournament drew 230 family bowlers from around the state and that number is expected to go up since McPherson is centrally located.
“We are pleased to be hosting this tournament and I feel it has a lot to do with our youth program being so strong, thanks to our youth director Nettie Wann, who has coached the program for over 30 years,” Hutts said. “The tournament will follow three weekends of the Wendy’s No-Tap Tournament, which during my 33 years here we’ve never had six straight weekends of tournament bowling.”
Hutts said the tournament will be contested during the day, so it will not affect bowling on Friday and Saturday nights.
Hutts added this is a quality tournament that has definite benefits.
“This tournament has excellent scholarship money for the youth bowlers, who will pair up with adult family and friends,” Hutts said.
According to Hutts, Starlite will have a number of teams that will be competing. The McPherson bowlers recently competed in Great Bend and now advance to state.
