BUHLER — Buhler is expected to have one of the better boys basketball teams in Class 4A Division I next year, but Denny Wahlgren won’t be leading the Crusaders.

Wahlgren on Tuesday announced that he is stepping down as head coach after five years due to health issues as he’s suffering from lymphoma.

The 67-year-old Wahlgren was 62-47 in his five years at Buhler. The Crusaders made the 2011 state tournament, losing their first-round game to Sumner Academy.

Wahlgren had previous stops at Salina South, Salina Central and Kansas Wesleyan University.

His overall record is 437-422.

His successor will have some good talent to work with as the Crusaders return Jace Williams and Noah Webster, who should be two of the better players in 4A D-I next season.
